A banquet hall's load swings from empty to 600 guests in an hour. That swing, more than square footage, should decide your system.
Owners planning AC for a banquet hall or marriage garden usually start by asking for a tonnage figure per square foot. That's the wrong starting question — the defining feature of an event venue isn't its size, it's how sharply its occupancy swings.
The real design problem: occupancy swing
An empty hall at 4 PM and the same hall at 600 guests by 8 PM is not a 20% increase in load — body heat, lighting for the stage, catering equipment and open doors during guest arrival can multiply the actual cooling demand several times over in a few hours. Sizing for the empty hall means the system can't keep up during the event; sizing purely for peak means paying to run a huge system for hours when it's barely occupied.
Comparing the options
| System | Good fit | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Ductable AC | A single large covered hall, budget-conscious | Whole hall runs as one zone — no partial cooling for small daytime events |
| VRF with ducted indoor units | Multiple halls or a hall plus attached rooms, used at different times | Higher upfront cost; needs roof/terrace space for outdoor units |
| Package units | Large open-air shamiana-style spaces, semi-permanent structures | Higher running cost per ton; more suited to seasonal or temporary use |
What we look at on a site visit
- Hall dimensions and ceiling height (higher ceilings need more airflow, not just more tonnage)
- How many events run simultaneously, and whether halls need independent control
- Kitchen and catering heat load if attached to the same building
- Electrical capacity available for the outdoor units
- Typical event duration and guest count, not just the venue's maximum capacity
“They successfully handled HVAC installation for our gym, banquet hall, and hotel. Their workmanship is excellent and their AMC support is consistently reliable.”
— Mr. Sudhir Sharma, Kanta Shravan Group, Bhopal
We've installed both ductable and VRF systems for banquet and hospitality venues around Bhopal, including a 1,000 TR system for Kanta Shravan Group and a 136 TR installation at Shubin Resort, Gwalior. If you're planning a venue, a site visit and a proper load calculation — not a per-square-foot estimate — is the right first step.
